Sounds like a great title for a book I should write! You may be surprised at the title, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you told me that you don’t understand the title. Last week I either introduced you to or re-introduced you to a book resource titled, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. This is one book you must read if you have not, and if you have long ago, it is time to get it off the shelf and blow the dust off of it.

This book has been time tested over decades since it was written and it is as applicable today as it was when Hill wrote it back in the early 1900’s. What many people have falsely believed about the book is that it is only about making money. That is sadly where so many miss the message. The secrets within Think and Grow Rich when applied will assist you in developing anything in your life you classify as riches. It is up to the user to determine the definition of riches and of what value they will be in their lives.
This past Friday I had the opportunity to be away from the office and to visit the Corps of Engineers operation at Beaver Lake, Rogers, Arkansas. We are working on the upcoming September/October issue of Workamper News magazine in which we highlight a Corps of Engineers project. This year we are highlighting the Beaver Lake project.
The purpose of my visit was to meet and interview two or three groups of Workampers currently working for the Beaver Lake project. I was so energizing to sit under the tall pine trees and visit with Gene & Pat Hamm, who have been living the Workamper lifestyle for over 30 years. For the majority of their Workamping years they have worked for the Corps of Engineers. Gene, currently 82 years old is on his second year of a three year contract. They are not sure whether they will submit for a new contract in 2012 or not, but will take it one year at a time. What an attitude and energy for 82 years of age.
So what does this have to do with riches? Gene & Pat and the two other couples I met on Friday parroted the same words of wealth that I have heard from thousands of Workampers over the years. They are not necessarily rich in material wealth, even though they are living in one of the most beautiful areas, but they went on about the hundreds of friends and acquaintances they have made over the past 30 years.
They reinforced what I have been preaching about the Workamping lifestyle for years – it isn’t about the pay, or the work that you do when living the Workamping lifestyle. Your riches come from your experiences of living in a variety of geographic locations that you never would have had to opportunity to experience if you stayed in your sticks and bricks. But even more important than that, is the relationships you develop over the years that far exceed any monetary riches. When it is all said and done, it is not about the dollars in your bank account, but the lives that you have touched and who have touched yours.
I left Beaver Lake with a re-confirmation of what the Workamping lifestyle can provide for those who activate their dream to live the lifestyle. It was an awesome day and one that I am richer for experiencing.
So don’t wait any longer. Get your copy of Think and Grow Rich and begin to apply the secrets found within its pages to your dream of living the Workamper lifestyle or any dream you may have for your life.
