Over the coming months, we will take a look at the “Six Steps” described by Napoleon Hill in his widely-read book “Think and Grow Rich” that apply to anything you desire to have or accomplish in life.

After reading Hills’ Six Steps, Thomas A. Edison said: “not only are the steps essential for the accumulation of money, but for the attainment of any goal.”

Step One:

Fix in your mind exactly what you desire.  It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of ___________.”   Define exactly what it is that you desire.  There is a psychological reason for definiteness.

With regard to experiencing the Workamping lifestyle, can you see the difference in the following two statements?

1)  I would like to experience the Workamping lifestyle someday;

Versus

2)  I will be living the Workamping lifestyle in my 40’ motor home on January 31, 2013.

As you read the above statements, take a moment to determine how you feel as you read the two statements.  If these statements were spoken by two different people, would there be any doubt in your mind which person has the better likelihood of experiencing the lifestyle?

Today, take time to become exact in determining what it is you desire.  Stop living in generalities and be specific!

Until next time…

You will never experience anything new, including the Workamping lifestyle if you insist upon living your life as if you are looking back through a rear view mirror of your automobile.  Nevertheless, this seems to be a common habit of many people.  Are you spending most of your present moment floundering mentally in the should-be-forgotten past?  Remember the old adage which says “Let the dead bury the dead.”  The past is a dead time-zone. There’s no sense in living in it.

This type of thinking will assist you in developing your dream to experience the Workamping lifestyle.  In other words, what you want to do is stop looking back in your life and worrying about things which have already occurred and which you can no longer alter. Pursuing that kind of mental activity will never lead to anything worthwhile.

Today your thoughts should be what could be, rather than what already was, and then move into action to bring your dreams to fruition.

Set your sights ahead of you where they belong.  Put your dreams before you and get them out of the rearview mirror!

One individual tells us he “just about” or “almost” starts the Workamping lifestyle.  Another individual actually starts living the Workamping lifestyle.  What is the difference? Is it just the word “almost?”

Another great book I would encourage you to check out is “The Razor’s Edge” written by W. Somerset Maugham and made into a movie by Daryl Zanuck.  Both the author and the movie producer knew that there isn’t a big difference inherently in a person; there is only a big difference in the way a person get things accomplished.

The history of the world is rich with dramatic illustrations of the Razor’s Edge concept. We hear or read about all kinds of heroes or Olympic medalists’ stories throughout time.  On the surface, these stories make it appear that some people “have it” and some people “don’t”.  And because they have it so much better than others, they enjoy much more of an abundant life.  That is where falsity comes into this type of thinking.

Remember, the difference between you and anyone else is only a matter of accomplishment.  You can vastly improve the results you are achieving presently by doing things differently.  You have the potential within you to become even more successful than anyone else you admire!

So what does all of this have to do with experiencing the Workamping lifestyle?  The “something” different that you must do to become a successful Workamper may not be what you think it is.  But whatever it may be, rest assured, you are quite capable of doing it.  Always bear in mind that because each person’s world is just a little bit different, the “something” you must do is not necessarily the same thing the other person needs to do to begin the Workamping lifestyle.

There is no question that you will eventually find out what it is that you must do if you keep imagining it and pursuing it. Just make up your mind ahead of time, when you do figure out what is your “razor’s edge,” you will do it and not make excuses anymore!

If you are a long time reader, you know that I continue to promote education, education and even more education before taking the step into the Workamping lifestyle.  Imagination comes first, but education will lead you to find your razor’s edge.

Last week we discussed image-making and everyone’s ability to visualize their dreams.  We of course are focusing on your dream to experience the Workamping lifestyle on this blog.  How did you do?  If you failed to do the exercises last week, give it a go this week.  Those of you who had success with the exercise last week, continue and let it become a part of your daily activity.

Consider this:  Jack Nicklaus, the world famous golfer, explains he will not even pick up a club until he has a very clear image on the screen of his mind, showing exactly how the ball will fly through the air, how it will hit the ground and where it will roll after it hits.  Nicklaus calls this “going to the movies” and he became so proficient at it that he became known throughout the world, winning him fame and fortune.

The only difference between you and Jack Nicklaus or anyone else you admire is appearance and accomplishments.  We all have different physical attributes and we all use our inherent mental faculties in a different way.  However, our basic structure is fundamentally the same. It’s just a matter of how we use what we have.

Little people or thinkers may try to tell you that this belief is a lot of nonsense.  But disbelievers like these have always existed and they are in my opinion, just that: “little people.”

My hope for you and your dreams is that you will step up and not be a little thinker, especially when it comes to your dreams!   I have over time encouraged you to become a student of many authors and read, read and read some more.  One of the older classics that you should definitely have in your library and have read is Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich.”  If you have read it, you already know that Hill is not just talking about riches as they relate to money, but to your life experience.  He is famous for the following quote “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.”  It is unfortunate that more people do not believe this, but the ones who do, prove it to themselves.  Why don’t you prove it to yourself, now.

Keep your dream alive and bring it to fruition through your thoughts that turn into action.

Take some time to “visualize yourself” living the Workamping lifestyle.   You may not know that much about it, but you have your own ideas and thoughts.  Can you see yourself as a Workamper?

Throughout our lives, we are conditioned through education and the media so that most of us find it hard to visualize or “pretend” once we are adults. This is a sad fact that happens to the vast majority of people.  In fact many reading this post are thinking right now, that just thinking about pretending is a childish act!

Acquiring knowledge about image-making can and will assist you in getting everything you want in life, including living the Workamping lifestyle, if that is on your bucket list.  Image-making eliminates the insecurity and doubt in your life which competes with your ability to create a new life for yourself.  Move away from the negative competition mode to a creative, supportive mode.  The only competition you should ever have is with your own ignorance.

We are from birth image-makers! Most religions today teach God is responsible for everything created in this world and I would fully subscribe to that belief. In a sense, however, we are co-creators, in that we bear responsibility for what God does in our lives. We have been given the awesome gift of free-will to think!

“Images” are mental pictures that are made from thoughts, and our magnificent minds cause us to “think.”  When we allow our minds to think, we tap into the ability to create the images we choose.

Take just a moment and use your mind to play one image or picture after another on the screen of your mind.  You can flash images just as fast as an App on your smart phone or create a hit movie from within your mind!  You are the writer, producer and director of a movie or slideshow without batting an eyelash inside your mind!  Isn’t it amazing?

So now that you’ve played with your mind to use it as a motion picture studio to form images of your choosing, I ask you again:  “Can you see yourself as a Workamper?” Everything we do is preceded by an image. Use your mind to think first in order to form the image; then do the work.

Please do the following exercise over the coming week.  When you have a few quiet moments each day, take the time to pretend!  Visualize yourself experiencing the Workamper lifestyle.  See what happens to your thoughts and feelings by the end of the week.

Until next time…
